Back to Work

BACK TO WORK
It's been a nice break, but now I am ready to get back to work. The first quarter of the year is traditionally our slow time and this year has been no exception. My last music event was a wedding on January 24th. (since then I have only done an afternoon Pop Quiz Game Show [ http://www.popquizgameshow.com/ ] on February 12th).
A break is always nice. Kinda of like getting your battery recharged . I took advantage of the time off to partake in a play at The Bell Tower Theater, tackle some home projects that my beautiful wife has been patiently waiting for, (and she has been patient) and worked on some new promotional ideas. But now I am ready to get back to what I love to do. This weekend starts off with a trip to my daughters elementary school to play music and games for the little ones, then Saturday I am taking a trip to Independence, IA for a 50th Anniversary party.
Next weekend we have two High School dances scheduled and then there will be a surprise birthday party to play for on the 21st. The Wedding season kicks off for us on April 11th.

Whenever someone, whether they be an individual, an organization or a sports team, achieves success, others will analyze what elements were involved in creating that success and may use those elements to further themselves. Dan Nichols is a business coach, entrepreneur and creator of the Lemonade Stand Simple business plan and has also written an audio book 8 Degrees of Separation. Dan is also an 18 year veteran of the deejay world and has compiled a fantastic list of over a dozen elements that he has found affects the success of wedding receptions or private parties. With Dans permission, I would like to share one of those elements with you each month in this blog. So without further ado, here is his first one:
A "too small" dance floor is better than one that is too big. The answer is simple as it creates the illusion whether real or not that the floor is full. People are more likely to dance when the crowd on the floor is dense than when they feel like the only ones out there. Take it from the trade that knows about dancing and crowd psychology, not from the banquet manager selling you on why a huge floor is so important. If people end up dancing on the carpet then great, they end up dancing on the carpet and the story of your floor being so packed people couldn't even fit on the floor only further reinforces my point.

My partner Bob has been busy in the off season creating the Interactive Trivia FUNdraiser program that utilizes many of the questions and challenges in our game show and formatted for a trivia contest/fundraiser. He unveiled it on February 28th for a local church group and in a three hour program they raised nearly $2000.
