FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Alexxus Entertainment Receives 2013 Best of Dubuque Award

Dubuque Award Program Honors the Achievement

DUBUQUE July 17, 2013 -- Alexxus Entertainment has been selected for the 2013 Best of Dubuque Award in the Music Machines category by the Dubuque Award Program.

Each year, the Dubuque Award Program identifies companies that we believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and our community. These exceptional companies help make the Dubuque area a great place to live, work and play.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2013 Dubuque Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the Dubuque Award Program and data provided by third parties.

Did You Know?

There are many different reasons couples opt to get married in a particular month. Warm weather and the best chance for good photo opportunities spurs many couples to tie the knot during the summer months. Although June has long been the most popular month for getting hitched, times are changing. Numbers from the American National Center for Health Statistics indicate that July and August have had more marriages than June for the last several years.

In Australia, the insurance organization Million Dollar Woman indicates that October is the most popular month for tying the knot. In North America, the most popular month to walk down the aisle is July, followed by August, June, May, September, October, December, November, April, February, and March. January has the least number of weddings.

Couples who are looking to save money or avoid competition for vendors with other couples can use this information when choosing a date for their weddings.

Musical Moments

Not long ago a Maid of Honor approached me at a wedding, and though people had been dancing a little while earlier things had quieted down.
“Can you put on a song that’ll get everyone out here[dancing]?” she asked.

And the answer was unfortunately no.

No I can’t. Not that I wouldn’t, if such a song existed, but no because I couldn’t. And any DJ that tells you different is lying to you. Asking for that one song that will inspire everyone in the room to stop what they are doing,  put down their drink or come in from outside and dance is much like asking a chef to make a dish that everyone will just love, or asking a pitcher just to throw pitches that no one can hit. If only that were possible.

It somewhat intrigues me why so many couples, when planning their wedding, will spend endless amounts of time putting together a huge music list, wanting to ensure that their wedding reception will be remembered as a great time, but the fact is the right music is only ONE of the factors that will help facilitate that.

Learning in Las Vegas

I no longer am a Vegas Virgin. Or better put, I have finally made it to Las Vegas for the annual Mobile Beat Disc Jockey Convention, the largest gathering of Mobile DJs in the country. There were great educational seminars, a fantastic exhibit hall showcasing the latest technology in the industry and wonderful fellowship among the other DJs. It vwas also nice running in to other DJs from Dubuque.

Thanks to Ron Ruth and Ed Petty for giving me the grand tour.

New Logo

We have unveiled a new logo for 2012. Our original one was put together in 1994 and looked like this:

We modified that one a bit when we left the CD age to look like this:

I can't say I was ever too fond of logo #2, and I have no one to blame except myself since the original concept was mine, so my website developer, Dave Dunnam of Photographs & Memories, and I came up with this:

A little flashier and not "something that you would see on the back of a pick-ups tailgate," as one person described my previous version.

You'll still see a bit of the old one yet this year since, in an effort to be 'green,' I'll try to use up the rest of our business cards, brochures and envelopes before going back to the Dubuque Advertiser and having more printed with the new logo. The latest one is already on our website though.

Until next time,
~ Mike ~
